Class 2 News
January 2014
Welcome back to Term 3 of our school year. I hope everybody had a happy Christmas holiday. Many thanks for all the lovely Christmas cards and presents at the end of last term. They were very much appreciated.
In our Literacy lessons this term we will be starting off by looking at poetry and then shall be moving on to instruction writing. Children will continue to have a spelling test on Mondays.
In our Numeracy lessons we will be both revisiting familiar topics and encountering new ones. We will be looking at symmetry, fractions, multiplication, addition, subtraction and shape. We will also be exploring data handling.
Science this term will focus on Forces and Movement. We will be describing how to use pushes and pulls to make familiar objects (like toy cars) speed up, slow down, or change direction. We shall recognise that pushes and pulls are forces, plan an experiment and decide whether it was fair. We will make measurements of length using standard units and present these in a chart.
Our Topic work this term is all about Mexico. We will be learning about the Horta family who live in a village called Tocuaro. We will find out about their daily lives and compare their routine to our own. We will also make Mexican masks.
In ICT we will be learning to find information using the internet and CD-ROMS.
In Art and Design the children will explore line, shape, colour and texture in natural forms. They will make observations of natural objects and use their observations as the basis for textile design. They will also use their experience of fabrics to make a collage.
In R.E we will be looking at the life of Jesus. For example, we shall be learning about Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist. Later on this term, we will be finding out about important festivals in Islam.
In P.E this term we will be focusing on gymnastics. P.E will continue to be on a Thursday and Friday every week.
If children have something they wish to bring in and talk about with the rest of the class ‘Show and Tell’ will continue to happen on Friday mornings.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me.
Kind Regards
Antonia Powell
