Class 1 News
Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the lovely Easter holidays. We were very lucky with the weather.
We had good fun in class one last term learning all about ‘Trees’. We spent lots of time outside exploring the trees in the school grounds. We went on nature trails with magnifying glasses so we could look closely at trees and the surrounding areas and spot what was living in them. It was interesting to look at the texture of bark and the detail on leaves through the magnifying glass.
We thought about how amazing trees are and learned about the wonderful things trees provide us with. In Literacy, we researched information using non-fiction books and the internet and wrote explanation texts.
The children worked in pairs to grow some seeds throughout the term. We had to find out what seeds need to grow so we could understand what we needed to do to grow them. We kept seed diaries to show how our seeds grew.
Finally, we collected wood from the nature area and made a camp fire where we toasted bread with jam. We also had a visit from the firemen to learn about safety with fires.
This term our topic is ‘Castles’. We will be exploring the differences between castles and modern day buildings, looking at how long ago castles were built, who lived in them, and what they were designed for.
We will also be thinking about designing and making our own castles with moving parts! For this, we will need ‘junk’ so any boxes, cartons, kitchen tubes(not toilet rolls) etc you have at home would be greatly appreciated.
PE on Fridays we will continue but we also will have swimming this term when the pool is up and running. The timetable for our swimming slot is Wednesday mornings. The children will need: swimming costume/trunks, a towel and swimming hat. Goggles can be worn if you have some.
There is a day trip to White Horse Hill on Thursday 8th May. Details for this trip have been given to the children in a letter and will need to be signed and returned as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns as always please feel free to come and see me at the end of the day.
Kind Regards
Hailey Wright
