The school day begins at 8.55 am. The pedestrian gates open at 8:40 am when staff are on duty in the playground (at which time the vehicular access gate to the school car park is closed and remains so until the end of the school day. The bell is rung at 8:55 am and the children line up to go into school quietly. This creates a calm start to the day which benefits their learning. During the Covid19 period, children enter the site at one of 3 prearranged gates and go straight to their classroom via the external class door.
Initially, at the start of the school year, children in Foundation are taken directly into their classroom by parents or carers, through the FC playground door and are met by staff. Parents will be advised of the gradual transition to joining the rest of the school in the playground before the start of the school day. During the Covid19 period, children enter the site at the prearranged gate, will be met by a member of staff from the Foundation Class and go straight to their classroom via the external class door.
We have a mid-morning break between 10.30 am and 10.50 am and a lunch-break between 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm.
Afternoon school ends at 3.15 pm and Activity Clubs normally end between 4.00 pm and 4:30 pm. Activity Clubs have been suspended during the Covid19 period.
During the mid-morning break children are supervised in the playground by two teachers. During the lunch hour they are looked after by up to five mid-day supervisors, under the direction of the headteacher. During the Covid19 period, each class will stay within their dedicated zone for the school site, supervised by staff from their own class at breaktime and a nominated supervisor at lunchtime.
School Lunches
Due to Covid19, the arrangements for September to October half term 2020 are different to normal. Foundation Class and Year 1 will eat in the hall having the option of lunch cooked by the school kitchen or a packed lunch brought from home.
Years 2 to 6 will all eat packed lunches in their classroom, either provided by our school kitchen or brought in from home.
There will be NO snack bar for KS2 children at breaktime. Parents may send in a healthy snack from home.
There are 2 lunch menus – FC an Yr 1 then Yr 2 to Yr 6. Choices for the main meal are either made by parents in advance using parentpay OR by the children in class each morning.
Lunches are cooked in our own kitchen and served between 12.00 pm and 12.30 pm in the school hall. The cost of a school lunch is £2.30. Meals must be paid for in advance. Payment is by Parentpay for payment of meals and school trips. Please contact the school office if you need any help or information.
All children in Foundation Class and KS1 are entitled to free school meals as part of government initiatives. Older children whose parents receive certain benefits (such as income support or jobseekers’ allowance) may also be entitled to free school meals. We are happy to advise parents who think their children may be entitled to free meals.
See the latest School Lunches Menu, which is also displayed on noticeboards around the school. The menu is based on a three weekly cycle and always includes both meat and vegetarian options.
Packed lunches are also eaten in the school hall. The school provides a glass of water. If soft drinks are included in a packed lunch, these should not be sent in glass containers. Milk can be ordered for those having packed lunches via Cool Milk.
As part of our healthy eating campaign only fresh fruit or vegetables are to be eaten at breaktime. The kitchen runs a snack bar at breaktime for KS2 children. Please do not send crisps, sweets, chocolate bars etc. to school
Fruit is provided for all Foundation and KS1 children free of charge and milk for FC children under 5 years of age. Parents of children aged 5 and over can order milk via Cool Milk.
