The school day begins at 8.55 am. The gates open at 8:40am, when staff are on duty in the playground; the bell is rung at 8:55 am and the children line up to go into school quietly. This creates a calm start to the day which benefits their learning. Children in Foundation are taken directly into their classroom by parents or carers, through the FC playground door and are met by staff.
We have a mid-morning break between 10.30 am and 10.50 am and a lunch-break between 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm.
Afternoon school ends at 3.15 pm and extra-curricular clubs and activities normally end between 4.00 pm and 4:25 pm.
During the mid-morning break children are supervised in the playground by two teachers. During the lunch hour they are looked after by up to five mid-day supervisors, under the direction of the headteacher.
Dinners are cooked in our own kitchen and served between 12.00 pm and 12.30 pm in the school hall. The cost of a school dinner is £2.10. Meals should be paid for in advance. The preferred method of payment is direct to the school bank account (please ask the office for details) or cheque payable to Oxfordshire County Council.
All children in KS1 are entitled to free school meals as part of government initiatives. Older children whose parents receive certain benefits (such as income support or jobseekers’ allowance) may also be entitled to free school meals. We are happy to advise parents who think their children may be entitled to free meals.
See the latest School Lunches Menu, which is also displayed on noticeboards around the school. The menu is based on a three weekly cycle and always includes both meat and vegetarian options.
Packed lunches are also eaten in the school hall. The school provides a glass of water. If soft drinks are included in a packed lunch, these should not be sent in glass containers. Cartons of milk can be ordered for those having packed lunches via Cool Milk.
As part of our healthy eating campaign only fresh fruit or vegetables are to be eaten at breaktime. The kitchen runs a snack bar at breaktime. Please do not send crisps, sweets, chocolate bars etc. to school
Fruit is provided for all KS1 children free of charge and milk for FC children under 5 years of age.
